Absence

For this assignment I aimed to create a continuous narrative that addresses the feeling we are confronted with when someone we care about is taken from us. Be it the feeling of losing a loved-one to an illness, age, accident, or the feeling induced by the absence of a father, mother or friend as they serve time incarcerated or away at war. I believe this feeling is something that every individual can relate to, very similar to the ‘why me?’ question we often ask during hard times. The distortion of the seemingly belonging figure in each photo sets them apart from the present figures in the images.

Bathtub Portraits

I invited friends over individually into the small bathroom in my apartment and asked them to lay in a giant tub of milky soapy water with only their faces emerging. The portraits I shot here my photography class, but this is an ongoing project that I would love to add to with other willing participants. Let me know if you are interested, each person gets a 5" x 7" print of their portrait and a a FREE bath!
